With everything going on in the world today, it’s essential to take time to focus on yourself. Along with Abhyanga, another great way to do this is by doing pranayama. Linguistically, prana means life or breath so this is the practice of controlling one’s breath.
Bhramari is a type of black bee native to the Indian subcontinent.1 As such, this is a technique where the individual makes a low-pitched humming noise from the back of the throat. Bhramari pranayama is excellent for calming agitated and anxious nerves. Also, it has demonstrated evidence for lowering blood pressure.2
How to:
Sit cross-legged or on a chair towards the front of the seat and make sure your spine is erect
Close your eyes and wear a gentle smile
Place your index fingers on the part of your cartilage between the cheek and ear hole
Breathe in and as you breathe out, press the cartilage and make a loud humming sound
Repeat six times
